Corn Adonis 224 SV is a simple mid-season hybrid developed by the Sineĺnikovskaya Selection and Research Station of the Institute of Grain Husbandry of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Registered in 2007, it is characterized by high productivity and resistance to common diseases. This variety has gained wide recognition among agricultural producers due to its favorable agronomic traits and stable yield.
The plant features 12-14 leaves on the main stem, with no or very weak anthocyanin pigmentation in the leaf sheath in the middle third of the plant. The ear is cylindrical in shape, with moderate anthocyanin pigmentation of the silk and husk, as well as weak pigmentation of the tassels. The grain is yellow, with a grain yield of 76.7%. The average grain yield over the test period 2001-2003 reached 87.6 ц/га, with starch content of 69.0% and fat content of 4.0%. Protein yield per hectare is 8.2 ц, and starch yield is 52.0 ц.
When grown for silage, the hybrid demonstrates high productivity: the average dry matter yield over the test years was 165 ц/га, with an average dry matter content in green mass reaching 29.7%. Protein content in green mass is 9.8%, and protein yield per hectare is 16.2 ц. These characteristics make Adonis 224 SV a versatile hybrid suitable for both grain and silage purposes.
