Chicory Calafine

Dutch breeding for sophisticated salads

The Calafine chicory from the Dutch company Enza Limited has secured a strong position in the premium leafy vegetable segment. This variety is the choice of professional vegetable growers focused on HoReCa supply chains and retail networks, where the visual appeal of the produce is paramount.

Characteristics and cultivation specifics

The primary feature of Calafine lies in its pronounced red leaf coloration, which maintains its intensity even when standard agronomic protocols are followed. Unlike many leafy varieties, this hybrid demonstrates high marketability when grown for fresh consumption. The leaf rosette forms harmoniously, ensuring convenience during harvesting and post-harvest handling.

Market positioning

Enza Limited has historically prioritized the genetic stability of its seed material. In this context, Calafine serves as a reliable solution for farmers who cannot afford the risk of yield loss due to uneven germination. The hybrid is well-adapted to the climatic conditions characteristic of European agriculture and shows consistent results when temperature regimes are maintained.
