Vasilisa Prekrasna

The cherry variety Vasilisa Prekrasna is a fast-fruiting and high-yielding variety with an early-mid season ripening period, occurring from June 10 to 15. This variety was developed at the Donetsk branch of the Institute of Horticulture of UAAN by L. I. Tarankenko through crossing the varieties Donetsk Krasavitsa and Donetsk Ugol'ek. The trees are medium-sized with a wide and moderately dense canopy, beginning to bear fruit in the fourth year after planting. The fruits are large, weighing 10–14 grams, round in shape, red in color with a distinctive sheen and firm flesh, possessing excellent flavor qualities rated 4.8–5.0 points. The medium-sized stone separates easily from the flesh, facilitating the consumption of the fruit.

The variety exhibits high winter hardiness, surpassing the variety Valeriy Chkalov, as well as resistance to diseases, particularly coccomyces. Additionally, Vasilisa Prekrasna possesses high drought tolerance and low requirements for growing conditions, making it suitable for various climatic zones. For successful growth, trees should be planted in sunny areas with fertile, light soils and regular watering, significantly enhancing growth vigor and yield.

The primary use of the fruit is for fresh consumption due to its dessert-like flavor, as well as for making compotes, jams, and preserves. High yield and early fruiting make this variety attractive for gardeners seeking quality and delicious cherry harvests in medium-term periods.
