Description

Zhukovsky cherry is a medium-ripening variety belonging to the dukes — hybrids of cherry and sour cherry. The tree, of medium growth vigor, reaches a height of 1.5 to 3.5 meters, with a rounded, slightly spreading crown of medium density and foliage. The variety is distinguished by good winter hardiness, disease resistance, and drought tolerance, allowing it to be grown in southern regions. Fruit-bearing begins at the age of 3–4 years, with active fruiting continuing until 15–16 years, with an average tree lifespan of 18–20 years. Zhukovsky cherry fruits are large, weighing 4 to 7 grams, oval-heart-shaped with a rounded base and apex. The skin is dark red, almost burgundy, firm and dense. The flesh is dense but tender, dark red, juicy with a pleasant sour-sweet taste reminiscent of sour cherry. The stone is large. On the tasting scale, the flavor is rated 5 points. Fruits ripen in the second decade of July, ripening simultaneously, and berries do not drop off for a long time, facilitating harvest. Zhukovsky variety is distinguished by high yield and universal use of fruits. Due to its excellent flavor and resistance to adverse conditions, it surpasses many other cherry varieties. These characteristics make Zhukovsky cherry an excellent choice both for private gardeners and commercial cultivation.
