European plum Shershnevskaya

Genetic Profile and Adaptation

The 'Shershnevskaya' cultivar belongs to the Japanese plum (Prunus salicina) group, requiring a distinct management strategy compared to European varieties. Its genetic make-up ensures early fruit-bearing, typically allowing the trees to enter the productive stage by the 3rd or 4th year after planting. The plant's metabolism provides a high level of inherent biological defense.

Phytosanitary Resilience

The technical value of this cultivar lies in its inherent resistance to key pathogens and pests that often compromise orchard profitability. Field observations confirm high resilience against the following threats:

• Fungal Pathogens: High tolerance to shot-hole disease (clasterosporium), allowing for a reduction in fungicide application frequency.
• Stone Fruit Pests: Effective defense mechanisms against the plum curculio (Kazarka) and San Jose scale, which is vital for maintaining fruit marketability.
• Foliage and Sucking Insects: The cultivar demonstrates strong resistance to damage from the winter moth, European fruit lecanium, fall webworm, and the hairy rose beetle.

Practically, planting 'Shershnevskaya' is recommended in regions with high pest pressure. The physiological traits of the cultivar—specifically the texture of the fruit epidermis and its biochemical composition—render it less attractive to the listed pests. This enables more efficient crop protection management and ensures a higher quality, more sustainable harvest.
