Contrast

Contrast is a cherry variety, representing a hybrid with sour cherry, combining the best qualities of both crops. The tree is medium-sized, with a spherical and spreading crown, reaching a height of up to 3 meters. It possesses high resistance to diseases and good winter hardiness, making it suitable for growing in various climatic conditions. Drought resistance is moderate, winter hardiness up to -30°С, which requires consideration when choosing a planting region.

The fruits of the variety are large, broadly rounded in shape, dark red in color with a burgundy skin tint. Berries weighing about 8–9 grams have firm, juicy flesh with a sweet-sour taste and light cherry notes. The juice is bright red, the pit is large and easily separates from the flesh. The biochemical composition of the fruits includes 18.3% dry matter, 12.3% sugars, as well as a significant content of vitamins C and P and anthocyanins, which increases their nutritional value.

The Contrast variety is distinguished by high yield – up to 8–9 tons per hectare. Fruits transport well and are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing into jams, compotes, and baking. For successful pollination, it is recommended to plant varieties such as French Black, Francis, Rubiny Kuban, or Improved Caucasian nearby, which promotes stable and abundant fruiting.
