Celery Krasilivska

Reliable root celery for long-term storage

The Krasilovsky celeriac variety, developed by the M. M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, is a staple choice for Ukrainian farms aiming for consistent yields and high-quality produce. This root variety is highly valued for its dense, firm texture and excellent post-harvest storage life.

Agricultural application and management

The primary goal when cultivating Krasilovsky is to ensure the proper development of a uniform, large root. Successful growers focus on several key agronomic practices:

• Seedling production: Utilizing seedlings is the standard approach to maximize the growing season and establish a strong plant base in open fields.
• Soil preparation: Since it is a root vegetable, it requires loose, nutrient-rich soil to allow for uniform expansion without structural deformation.
• Irrigation scheduling: Maintaining consistent soil moisture during the active root-filling phase is essential to prevent internal hollows and cracks, which are crucial for marketability.

Industrial value

Krasilovsky is particularly favored by processing plants. Its bright white, solid flesh does not degrade during processing, making it an ideal candidate for dried vegetable mixes, frozen convenience foods, and canning. Due to its remarkable shelf life, producers can keep the root in storage facilities well into late spring, allowing them to manage market supply effectively throughout the off-season. Its structural integrity also makes it highly efficient for industrial peeling and slicing machinery, minimizing waste.
