Cardiff F1 Carrot is an early-maturing hybrid of the Chantenay type, bred in the Netherlands, intended for cultivation throughout Ukraine. The vegetative period is about 100 days from germination to technical maturity. The fruits have a bright orange color, conical shape with a blunt end, length from 15 to 20 cm and weight from 100 to 200 grams. The carrot flesh is sweet, juicy, with high carotene content (up to 18 mg) and sugar (7-8%), as well as significant amounts of vitamins and micronutrients, which ensures excellent taste qualities and makes this hybrid universal for fresh consumption, cooking, and processing into juices and purees.
Cardiff F1 grows well on well-lit areas with loose, fertile loamy or light clay soil with a deep plough layer and neutral or slightly acidic reaction. The hybrid does not tolerate overcrowding, waterlogging, excess of organic fertilizers and fresh manure. For successful cultivation, moderate nitrogen and abundant potassium-phosphorus feeding, as well as timely thinning of crops, loosening and weeding, are recommended. The best predecessors for planting are potato, cabbage, cucumber, tomato and onion.
The foliage apparatus of Cardiff Carrot is resistant to major diseases, including alternaria and bolting, which contributes to maintaining plant health and high yield. Seeds are treated with fungicide Tiram, which eliminates the need for soaking them before planting. Firmly attached foliage allows using harvesting machinery for crop collection, and with proper care, up to 6-7 kg of fruits can be obtained from 1 sq. m. This hybrid is excellent for prolonged storage and sale on the fresh market.
