Buckwheat Tabor

German breeding for consistent yields

Buckwheat variety 'Tabor' from the renowned German breeding house P.H.Petersen Saatzucht Lundsgaard represents a European approach to cultivating this demanding crop. Developed with the participation of Michaela Schlathölter, this variety is aimed at farmers looking for a balance between crop manageability and yield potential.

Morphological features

Visually, 'Tabor' stands out for its compact habit: plant height ranges from 50 to 70 cm. This short stature, combined with moderate lodging resistance, requires an agronomist to pay close attention to seeding density and fertilizer application. The variety is not prone to excessive vegetative growth, which allows the plant to focus its energy on forming high-quality grain.

Strengths and considerations

• Manageability: The short plant type facilitates mechanized harvesting, reducing losses when headers are adjusted correctly.
• European seed quality: The originator, P.H.Petersen, guarantees high purity of seed material, which is critical for achieving uniform emergence.
• Agronomic requirements: Moderate lodging resistance implies the need to control nitrogen nutrition. In over-fertilized soils, this variety may require protective measures.

'Tabor' is optimal for intensive technologies where controlling leaf mass development is key. It is the choice for those who value the predictability of German breeding and work with crops that require a precise approach to seeding standards.
