Fava bean variety Yasochka, also known as Fine Yas, is a medium-maturing bush-type variety of Ukrainian selection with a vegetation period of 90 to 105 days. The plant is compact, reaching a height of about 50 cm, possesses a strong root system and strong immunity to diseases such as bacterial blight and anthracnose. Pods 8-10 cm long are filled with white, dense medium-sized beans (4-6 per pod), which are distinguished by high flavor quality and soft texture. This variety is drought-tolerant and prefers sunny, sheltered from drafts areas for cultivation.
A unique feature of the Yasochka fava bean is the possibility of double harvest: first as green pods, and then as fully ripe seeds. The yield of this variety reaches up to 40 kg per 100 square meters, making it attractive for industrial cultivation and commercialization. Fava beans are suitable for long-term storage, processing, culinary use, canning, and freezing. They cook quickly and are ideal for dietary nutrition, as well as for making soups, borscht, and vegetable ragout.
For successful cultivation of Yasochka fava bean, it is recommended to sow seeds after soil warming to a temperature of at least +15 degrees Celsius on sunny areas with fertile soil and low acidity. Sowing is done in rows with row spacing of about 50 cm and seed depth of approximately 2 cm. The plant requires regular but infrequent abundant watering and can respond positively to application of mineral fertilizers. Fava bean grows well alongside other crops such as pumpkin and corn, which improves growing conditions and increases yield.
