The 'Winston' bean variety, introduced by Syngenta Seeds B.V., became a significant addition to the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2024. Developed by French breeders, this hybrid is focused on professional vegetable growing, where stable yields and high marketability are the key factors.

Adaptability and morphology

Winston is a bush bean that demonstrates excellent adaptability to various agro-climatic conditions in Ukraine. The variety has successfully passed trials and is recommended for cultivation in all major zones: Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissya. The plant is characterized by its compact, low-growing habit, which significantly simplifies crop maintenance and harvesting.

Crop characteristics

Unlike many alternatives, Winston produces dark green pods with a moderately rough surface. Key fruit parameters include:

• Cross-section shape: round.
• Curvature: moderate, S-shaped.
• Beak length: medium.
• Texture: thin, tender pods with moderate ventral suture fiber content.

Due to its biological traits, the variety is intended for fresh consumption, although its quality indicators also allow for use in the processing industry. The snow-white flowers and moderately green foliage underscore the variety's place in modern vegetable breeding, where fruit aesthetics are combined with high productivity.
