Wild cabbage Orion F1

German genetics for the premium market

The «Orion F1» hybrid from the renowned German breeding company Agri-Saaten is a specialized white cabbage variety tailored for the fresh market segment. In modern vegetable production, where requirements for visual quality and product consistency are increasingly stringent, this hybrid fills a specific niche for «portion-sized» vegetables sought after by modern retail chains and the high-end foodservice industry.

Agronomic profile and morphology

The primary advantage of «Orion F1» lies in its compact nature and predictable growth patterns. Unlike massive mid-to-late season varieties, this hybrid develops tidy, barrel-shaped heads weighing between 0.5 and 1.0 kg. This weight range is ideal for consumer-ready packaging: it makes the vegetable easy to transport and store, and it does not require trimming or cutting prior to sale, which significantly reduces retail shrinkage and post-harvest losses.

Market Positioning

• Form and Marketability: The barrel-like shape combined with a vibrant green color ensures excellent presentation on store shelves.
• Usage: Specifically developed for fresh market sales, where aesthetic appeal and manageable portion sizes are more critical than raw bulk yield.
• Heritage: Agri-Saaten’s commitment to German breeding standards guarantees genetic stability and consistent performance, even under intensive cultivation practices.

Choosing «Orion F1» is a strategic decision for growers operating on a «harvest-to-sell» model with established links to premium outlets. The high uniformity of the heads within the 0.5–1.0 kg range allows producers to plan their yields with high precision, minimizing the percentage of undersized or oversized produce.
