AS 2

Gossypium hirsutum L. variety known as AS 2 is a perennial plant cultivated in an annual form. Plant height varies from 40–45 cm to 1.5–2 m, with a sprawling, compact, and pyramidal bush shape. The stem may be hairy or hairless; leaves are large, palmate-lobed with stipules, and petiolate.

Key yield characteristics include a raw cotton yield of approximately 13 centners/hectare and fiber recovery of 37–38%. Fiber length ranges from 28.7 to 30.5 mm, with a tenacity of approximately 31 g/tex. The fruit is a medium-sized boll with an oval longitudinal cross-section and interrupted ridges on the surface; each compartment contains 6–9 seeds, with a 1000-seed weight of about 125 g.

The crop exhibits moderate pest resistance: lightly damaged by spider mites and aphids. Suitable for mechanized harvesting due to medium plant height and compact bush structure. The vegetative period is approximately 122–130 days, with an optimal growth temperature of 25–30 °C. AS 2 cotton is a valuable fiber source used in the textile industry to produce a wide range of household and technical fabrics.
