Basil LUCHANO

Optimizing Production with 'Luciano' Basil

For large-scale agricultural operations, the 'Luciano' basil variety stands out as a reliable asset for greenhouse production. Developed by the Gavrish breeding team and VNIISSOK, this variety is engineered for density and efficiency. With a plant height of 20–30 cm, it is perfectly suited for high-density planting regimes, allowing operators to maximize output per square meter.

Operational Performance

The yield potential of 0.5–1 kg/m² makes it a highly profitable crop for commercial producers. A key operational advantage is the large leaf size, which significantly reduces labor time during harvesting compared to small-leaf varieties. The plant’s structure ensures that harvested leaves maintain their integrity and freshness during transit, which is vital for retail distribution and minimizing post-harvest waste.

Aroma Profile and Commercial Versatility

The 'Luciano' variety distinguishes itself with a complex aromatic profile, featuring dominant notes of pepper, cloves, and anise. This multi-layered scent profile provides a competitive edge in the food industry, making it an ideal choice for both fresh-cut salads and culinary processing. For the grower, this versatility ensures a wider customer base and steady demand throughout the season.

• Operational Efficiency: Compact growth habit is ideal for automated harvest systems and vertical farming.
• High Yield: Superior leaf-to-stem ratio maximizes net product weight per unit area.
• Consistency: Proven genetics ensure uniform germination and plant development, simplifying crop maintenance schedules.
