Basil GURMAN ANISE

Growing the Gourmet Anise Basil at Home

If you are looking for a compact basil variety for indoor gardening, the "Gourmet Anise" (Gourman Anisoviy) from Agrofirma Poisk is a standout choice. It maintains a neat, bush-like form reaching only 20-30 cm, making it perfect for windowsills or kitchen counters. The leaves are small, lanceolate, and vibrant green, giving the plant an aesthetic appeal alongside its culinary utility.

Cultivation and Maintenance

The time from sowing to harvest is roughly 50-60 days. The plant is quite resilient and not particularly demanding. For home growing, a standard potting mix and a sunny spot are sufficient. The key to success is avoiding waterlogging—moderate but consistent watering is the way to go. The root system is quite compact, so you don't need large containers; a 2-3 liter pot is plenty for a healthy plant.

Flavor Profile and Culinary Application

The true highlight of this variety is its distinct anise aroma. The flavor is spicy and rich, lacking the bitterness found in some other basil types.

• Fresh in salads: The anise notes provide a unique twist that goes beyond the flavor profile of standard basil.
• In marinades: It works wonderfully with pickles and canned vegetables, adding a unique depth to the flavor.
• As a seasoning: It is an excellent companion for meat and fish dishes.

To keep the plant productive, we recommend pinching the tops regularly, which encourages branching and a thicker foliage yield. For those looking to grow fresh herbs at home without excessive maintenance, "Gourmet Anise" is one of the most balanced varieties in terms of effort versus yield.
