Jersey

Barley variety Jersey is a winter transgenic barley developed to provide farmers with high-quality grain rich in feed units and digestible protein. This variety stands out for its high adaptability to various soil-climate conditions, allowing cultivation across all regions of Ukraine. A distinctive feature of Jersey is its ability to be grown for multiple years on the same site without loss of yield, high resistance to adverse weather conditions and diseases, as well as genetic resistance to pests, particularly the Hesse fly (gene H – 6). Thanks to its high plasticity to different soil types and suitability for direct combine harvesting, the variety ensures stable and high yields due to spike length, grain number, and high tillering coefficient. Additionally, Jersey belongs to the group of varieties with high index of comprehensive resistance to biotic environmental factors, confirming its reliability and genetic protection against pests and diseases. This makes it a preferred choice for cultivation in the Eastern part of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine and other regions with diverse agroclimatic conditions. Jersey is characterized by a medium ripening period and is recommended for cultivation in Forest-Steppe, Polissia, and Steppe zones. It demonstrates high yield, reaching 55.2 c/ha in Steppe, 72.1 c/ha in Forest-Steppe, and 66.6 c/ha in Polissia. The variety possesses high drought, lodging, and shattering resistance, as well as resistance to major diseases such as powdery mildew, rust, and fusarium, ensuring stable and high-quality harvests. Jersey was registered in 2017 and represents a modern solution for the grain sector, developed in accordance with requirements of modern agrotechnologies.
