Description Scarpia
Barley variety Scarpia is a highly adaptable winter barley developed by Kazakh breeders at the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Production. This medium-maturing variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and frost resistance, allowing successful cultivation in various climatic zones, including the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions. Scarpia has a six-row ear type and high tillering potential, contributing to high yields of up to 80 centners per hectare under optimal conditions. Plant height reaches 90-95 cm, ensuring good resistance to lodging.

The variety is distinguished by its versatility in sowing dates, which range from September 20 to October 15, providing flexibility in agronomic practices and adaptation to adverse weather conditions. Sowing rate depends on conditions and timing and ranges from 250 to 400 seeds per square meter. Scarpia exhibits high resistance to common diseases such as dwarf rust, false powdery mildew, helminthosporiosis, and fusarium, as well as resistance to stem and ear breakage, which reduces yield losses during harvest.

Moreover, the grain of this variety has high energy value and quality indicators: thousand-grain weight is 50-55 g, protein content reaches 14.5%, and milling yield is 42.1%. The variety is primarily used as forage barley. Prior to sowing, seeds undergo "Care soft seeds" technology treatment, which protects them from damage and improves germination. Thanks to these characteristics, Scarpia barley is a reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable and high-quality yield under various growing conditions.
