Tolar is a high-yield spring barley variety developed at the Selection and Genetics Institute and registered in the Ukrainian Plant Varieties Register since 2002 for the forest-steppe conditions. It is intended for intensive agriculture and features a high yield potential of 85-90 c/ha. During the state variety trials in 1999-2001, Tolar ranked first in the forest-steppe zone for yield, surpassing the national standard Odessa 115 by 13.7%, which equals an additional 5.01 c/ha at an average yield of 44.6 c/ha.
The Tolar variety exhibits enhanced drought resistance at all growth stages, making it a reliable choice for regions with variable climatic conditions. It responds well to full mineral fertilization, which helps maximize its productive potential. The plant habit is erect, facilitating maintenance and harvest.
Tolar also demonstrates resistance to helminthosporium infection, reducing the risk of crop loss due to disease. This variety belongs to the Nutans group and was developed through hybridization at the V. Ya. Yuryev Institute of Plant Breeding. Thanks to its economically valuable traits and adaptive qualities, Tolar is a promising choice for the brewing industry and intensive agriculture.
