Spomin is a spring barley variety developed during research conducted by the collection of barley varieties of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Volga Research Institute of Grain Crops" from 2016 to 2018. During these studies, approximately 350 samples were examined annually, including samples from various research institutes in Russia and abroad. Spomin is characterized by high productive tillering, exceeding 2.0 productive stems per plant, as well as grain mass ranging from 1.3 to 2.9 grams, indicating its high yield and grain quality.
In addition, the Spomin variety belongs to those samples possessing important agronomic traits, such as large grain size and disease resistance. Specifically, resistance to barley smut (Ustilago hordei) was evaluated, and Spomin belongs to the varieties that did not show significant infection by this disease under field conditions. This makes it promising for use in breeding programs and cultivation in the Middle Volga region.
Thus, Spomin is a high-yielding and disease-resistant barley variety that can serve as a reliable parental material for creating new breeding lines. Its characteristics allow effective use of this variety in agricultural production, ensuring stable yields and high grain quality.
