Description BINOM
The spring barley variety «BINOM» is a mid-season, medium-height forage crop intended for cultivation in the southwestern and southeastern zones of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Maturation occurs within 70-76 days; the plant is characterized by high resistance to lodging and a mass of 1000 grains ranging from 42-52 grams. The grain is large, with a high natural density of approximately 680 g/l and a hulling rate of 9.1%, which is slightly higher compared to other varieties. The protein content in the grain averages 12.5%, which is a significant advantage for forage use.

The plant features a semi-erect bush, medium-height stem, and a cylindrical head of medium density. Leaf sheaths on lower leaves are smooth, hairless, with a strong waxy coating. The head has long, serrated awns with a light anthocyanin coloring at the tips. The kernel varies from large to very large, with a hairless ventral groove and an embracing lodicule. Despite high resistance to lodging and medium drought resistance, the variety is susceptible to several diseases, including loose smut and covered smut, helminthosporium leaf blight, stem rust, and root rots.

To improve resistance to lodging and enhance grain quality under intensive cultivation technologies, the use of retardant «BINOM» 46% W/V is recommended. This agent promotes shortening and thickening of internodes, reduces stem height, thereby increasing plant resistance to lodging, which positively affects yield and the quality of the harvested grain.
