Charlie is a medium-late spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety intended for malting production. It is distinguished by good yield and is suitable for cultivation in the Central and Central Black Earth regions. The average yield of the variety in the Central region is about 38 centners per hectare, and in the Central Black Earth region, up to 55.1 centners per hectare. The weight of 1000 grains varies from 43 to 57 grams, indicating high grain quality for malting purposes.
The variety has moderate resistance to diseases such as net and loose smut, which reduces the risk of yield losses. However, it is moderately susceptible to stripe mosaic and susceptible to root rots, which requires a careful agronomic approach and timely plant protection. These features must be taken into account when planning crop protection and selecting plant protection products.
Practical experience in growing the Charlie variety confirms its high productivity. For example, in the Yaroslavl region, the yield reached 30 centners per hectare, and in the Gavrilov-Yam district, on an area of 200 hectares, 600 tons of grain were harvested. These figures indicate the stability and reliability of the variety in regional conditions, making it an attractive choice for agricultural producers focused on the production of high-quality malting barley.
