Description Melitopol Late
The apricot variety 'Melitopol Late' is the result of selection by the Melitopol Institute of Horticulture and is intended for cultivation in southern regions of Ukraine. The tree is fast-growing, reaching a height of 4 to 5 meters, forming a broad oval crown of moderate density. Fruit production begins in the fourth year after planting, with fruits forming on one-year-old shoots. It is recommended to grow on sunny sites with fertile, well-drained soils and moderate watering. The fruits are medium to large in size, weighing 45 to 55 grams, with a broadly oval shape and flattened sides. The skin is dense, orange or golden-yellow in color, slightly hairy, and covered with a blush. The flesh is firm, uniform, fiberless, moderately juicy, with a delicate honey-like aroma and a sweet-tart flavor. The stone separates easily from the flesh, facilitating use fresh, as well as for canning and drying. The variety is characterized by high transportability, allowing it to retain fruit quality during transit. 'Melitopol Late' is highly cold-resistant and disease-resistant, particularly to moniliosis, making it a reliable choice for regions with a mild climate. The variety is self-fertile, but the presence of other fruit trees in the orchard can increase yield by at least double. High yield, rapid maturation, and excellent fruit quality make this variety popular among gardeners seeking a stable and flavorful apricot harvest.
