Description

Random seedling, selected from local forms of apple in the Lower Volga region. Obtained from the village of Nachesovo, Astrakhan Oblast. The variety was officially approved in the Lower Volga region since 1973.

Tree is shrub-like, multi-stemmed (consisting of 6-7 stems), vigorous. Crown shape is elongated-round. The variety fruits on short generative and medium vegetative shoots.

Shoots are medium, slightly curved, olive-yellow, slightly hairy. Leaves are large, entire, oval-rounded. Petiole is short, hairy, with strong anthocyanin, extending to the central vein. Stipules are medium, lanceolate, entire.
Flowers are solitary, pale-pink, large. Blooms from May 12 to May 20. Petals are large, oval, with a small stigma. Stamens 17-19, filaments pale-purple, anthers large, light-yellow. Pistil consists of 5 styles, 15-16 mm long. Stigma of the pistil is located above the anthers. Style of the pistil is densely hairy. Sepals are light-green, leaf-like, finely toothed, with a small amount of glands along the edges.

Fruits are below average size, weighing 120-150 g, maximum weight 230 g. Fruit shape is round-apple-like, main skin color greenish-yellow, without covering color.
Fruits have strong woolly hairs, which are difficult to remove. Depression is medium, narrow, with rough radial rustiness emerging from the depression, without swelling. Calyx is open, medium, sepals lanceolate, coarsely toothed, with a small amount of glands along the edges. Receptacle is deep, narrow, wrinkled. Subcalyx tube is cup-shaped, medium width and depth. Core is bulbous, medium, located in the center of the fruit, symmetrical. Seed chambers are closed, each containing 10-13 seeds. Seeds are acute-oval, dark-brown.
Flesh is greenish, firm, with a large number of small stone cells, medium juiciness, sour, slightly astringent taste, with a high pleasant aroma. Chemical composition of fruits: dry matter on average 18.5% (maximum 21.2%), total sugars — 8.0% (9.9%), titratable acids — 0.79% (1.47%) on fresh weight, sugar-to-acid ratio — 10.9 (18.5), ascorbic acid — 18.7 mg/100g (35.8), polyphenols (catechins) — 190 mg/100g (130-233), flavonols — 53 mg/100g (9-89), total phenolic compounds — 1027 mg/100g (755-1180), pectin substances — 1.45% (0.86-2.44%) on fresh weight.
Harvesting period — second half of September, storage duration up to 60 days. From flowering to harvest, approximately 147 days. During storage, fruits often suffer from skin spot disease. Fruit yield up to 60-70%. Variety is intended for processing. Sensory evaluation of compotes — 4.0 points, jam — 4.2 points.
Variety is self-sterile. Best pollinators: Krasnoslobodskaya and Akhtubinskaya.
Trees enter fruiting at 3-4 years (after budding), and produce commercial yield at 5 years. Yield is good (30-45 kg per tree or 125-187 centners/ha). Vegetative period length on average 200 days. Variety is highly resistant to marginal necrosis and moderately resistant to chlorosis (in certain years, affected by 2-3 points on a 5-10% leaf area).

Advantages of the variety: stable yield, early fruiting, good technological fruit qualities, resistance to marginal necrosis.

Disadvantages of the variety: susceptibility to skin spot disease during storage, presence of strong fruit hairs that are difficult to remove.
Variety is a good pollinator for many apple varieties.
