A late-ripening variety developed at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection (814 — self-fertile), triploid, obtained from seed sowing in 1982. First fruiting occurred in 1989, i.e., 8 years after sowing. The seedling was selected for elite status in 1990. Breeders: E. N. Sedov, Z. M. Serova, V. V. Zhdanov, G. A. Sedysheva.
The variety was accepted for State Testing in the Central-Chernozem and Central regions of the Russian Federation. Suitable for cultivation in intensive orchards.
Trees are medium-sized and fast-growing. The crown is rounded, of medium density. Main branches diverge from the trunk at nearly straight angles, curved, sparsely arranged, with ends directed downward. Bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and gray. The predominant fruiting type is simple and complex rings.
Shoots are medium thickness, curved, round in cross-section, brown, hairy. Buds on the shoot are few, medium-sized. Buds are pressed, conical, hairy. Leaves are large, broad, rounded, short-pointed, with spirally twisted tips, green, wrinkled, shiny, with coarse venation. Leaf blade is concave, hairy. Leaf margin is saw-toothed and wavy. Petiole is medium length, thick, without hairs, with anthocyanin coloration. Flower buds are hairy, medium-sized, elongated.
Fruits are medium size (average mass 130 g), broad-conical. Fruit surface is smooth, slightly ribbed. Fruit skin is smooth and shiny. Main color at harvest maturity is greenish, turning greenish-yellow at consumption. Cover color occupies a smaller portion of the fruit as stripes and specks of pink. Numerous subdermal dots, medium-sized, green, clearly visible. Peduncle is medium length, thin, straight, slightly angled. Calyx is medium depth, acute-conical, narrow with medium degree of rust. Fruit receptacle is open. Plate is deep, wide, ridged. Heart is large, heart-shaped. Chambers are closed. Sub-receptacle tube is medium depth, bowl-shaped. Seeds are medium size, conical.
Fruit flesh is cream-colored, medium density, tender, fine-grained, juicy, slightly acidic-sweet. On numerous taste tests, fruits are rated 4.4 points for appearance and 4.2 points for flavor. Fruits contain 10.5% sugars, 0.96% titratable acids, 17.6 mg/100g ascorbic acid, 453 mg/100g P-active substances.
Harvest maturity in the Oryol region occurs from August 25 to September 5, i.e., slightly later than Melba. Consumer period continues until the end of September.
The variety is highly productive. Over 4 years (1991-1994), it yielded 182 centners/ha, while the control variety Melba yielded only 49 centners/ha. Characterized by regular fruiting.
Trees are sufficiently winter-hardy in the Oryol region. Immunity to scab on fruits and leaves is provided by the Vf gene.
Advantages of the variety: immunity (absolute resistance) to scab, high and regular yield, high commercial and consumer quality of late-ripening fruits.
