Summer variety selected by the Stavropol Experimental Station for Horticulture, obtained by crossing Borovinka and Astrakhan Red. Author: P. V. Kuznetsov. Found on suburban plots and in old plantings of the steppe zone of the Stavropol region.
Medium-sized tree. Young trees have an inverted pyramid-shaped, dense, highly leafy crown. Fruit-bearing trees have spherical crowns. Bark color is light brown. Main branches have oblique-vertical angles of departure. Predominant fruiting type is ring and spear.
Shoots are brown with weakly expressed curvature, medium pubescence, with small, slightly convex tubercles. Buds are reddish-brown, conical. Leaves are green, oval, directed downward, with doubly toothed edges, leathery leaf blade, curved downward. Leaf surface is smooth, lower side pubescence is medium, petiole is medium length and thin.
In umbel-like inflorescences, 4-5 pink flowers, occasionally double-flowered. Petals are white-pink with entire edges, stigmas are elevated above the anthers.
Fruits are medium-sized (80-100 g), one-dimensional, rounded-conical, with slight ribbing towards the apex. Main color is greenish-yellow, covering color is carmine-red blush with clearly visible stripes on most of the fruit. Calyx is medium, slightly rusty, receptacle is small and furrowed. Seeds are medium-sized, 4-7 per fruit.
Flesh is yellowish, medium-textured, sour-sweet taste, fine-grained. Taste score: 4.2 points. Fruits contain: 11.8% total sugars, 0.42% titratable acids, 14.6 mg/100g ascorbic acid.
Harvest maturity occurs in mid-August. Storage life is weak. Fruit transportability is good. Marketability is high.
Enters fruiting on the 4th-5th year after grafting onto seedlings of cultivated apple varieties.
Trees are high-yielding with pronounced fruiting periodicity, medium winter hardiness.
Leaf resistance to scab, powdery mildew, and spots is above average. Infested by pests weakly. Drought and heat resistance are high.
Advantages of the variety: high yield, drought resistance.
Disadvantages of the variety: short storage life of fruits.
