Ellison is a large-fruit kiwi variety that grows as a vine with sturdy, long canes. The fruits are of medium size (50–80 g) and have an elongated, pear-like shape. The skin is brown, dense, and slightly fuzzy; the flesh is bright green, tender, with a tart-sweet flavor and a slight aftertaste of pineapple or wood sorrel.
The variety boasts high yields: a single vine can produce 50 to 60 kg of fruit. Ellison kiwi is resistant to low temperatures and withstands frosts down to –25 °C, making it suitable for cultivation in cold climatic conditions. The fruits stay fresh in the refrigerator until the end of winter.
For successful growth, provide support for the vine, regular watering, and periodic pruning. The variety tolerates diseases well and is suitable for transport thanks to its tough skin. Harvest time is late October, after which the fruit reaches full maturity.
