Description Polesky Large-fruited
The Polesky Large-fruited apricot is a rapid-bearing medium-ripening variety that begins fruiting as early as the third year after planting. The tree is vigorous with a round-oval crown shape, exhibiting high winter hardiness and resistance to major diseases such as moniliosis, clasterosporiosis, and fruit rot. Flowering occurs late, reducing the risk of damage from late spring frosts. The variety is drought- and waterlogged soil-tolerant, making it suitable for various climatic conditions and commercial cultivation. The fruit is large, weighing 50–85 grams, occasionally reaching up to 84 grams. The skin is orange with a slight blush; the flesh is golden-orange, tender, juicy, slightly crisp, with a pleasant sweet-tart flavor. Its high commercial quality and good transportability make it popular for both personal gardens and commercial production. Yield per mature tree exceeds 110 kg, indicating stable and abundant fruiting. Developed by breeder A. L. Denisuk at the Institute of Horticulture through crossing the Polesky High-yielding variety with elite form 4345. Due to its high cold resistance, disease resistance, excellent taste, and large fruit size, this apricot is recommended for cultivation in central Ukraine and other regions with similar climatic conditions.
