Seeds should be sown on a specialized epiphytic medium, such as a mix of milled pine bark, sphagnum moss, and charcoal. Because the seeds are small and light-dependent, they must be sown on the surface and should never be buried deep in the substrate.

Maintaining a constant, high humidity level is crucial during the germination phase. Using a heated propagator set to approximately 25 degrees Celsius can significantly increase the success rate and speed up the emergence of seedlings.

Once germinated, seedlings are extremely sensitive to environmental shifts. It is recommended to keep them in a stable microclimate with filtered, bright light to prevent dehydration and stress during the early development stages.

Transplanting into individual pots should only occur when the seedlings have established several true leaves. Given the epiphytic nature of the roots, they are prone to mechanical damage, so minimal disturbance during transfer is essential for healthy plant development.

Myrmephytum requires a stable environment that mimics tropical conditions. High humidity, preferably between 70 and 80 percent, is necessary to keep the foliage and the fleshy caudex in a healthy, turgid state throughout the year.

Light intensity is another critical factor. These plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. Direct afternoon sun can easily scorch the plant, causing unsightly lesions on the stems and leaves, so orientation on eastern or western exposures is generally preferred.

The temperature range should stay consistent between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius. Sudden temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius can induce metabolic shock and make the plant susceptible to secondary fungal infections due to cold-induced root failure.

The substrate must prioritize drainage and aeration. A loose mix composed of orchid-grade bark, charcoal, and moss allows the roots to breathe while maintaining enough moisture to prevent the plant from shriveling during the growing season.

Watering should be managed by observing the substrate moisture rather than following a strict calendar. The medium should be allowed to dry slightly between waterings, ensuring that no stagnant water remains, which could cause root rot.

Mealybugs are the primary pest affecting Myrmephytum, often congregating in the crevices of the caudex and leaf axils. Their presence can be difficult to detect until a significant infestation occurs, making regular inspection a necessity.

Poor ventilation combined with high humidity often leads to fungal outbreaks. These pathogens can cause stem rot, which is difficult to reverse if it has reached the inner tissues of the plant. Maintaining consistent airflow is the best preventative strategy.

Spider mites can become a nuisance during the drier months if humidity levels fall below the required threshold. These tiny pests suck sap from the leaves, causing stippling and eventual leaf drop if left untreated.

Root rot is the most common ailment caused by improper soil density or excessive watering. Once the roots are compromised, the plant loses its ability to absorb water, leading to rapid decline of the entire specimen.

Scale insects can also infest the stems, effectively bypassing standard defenses due to their protective coverings. Manual removal with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol is effective for small populations before considering the use of systemic insecticides.
