The primary damage caused by Monophlebidae is due to their feeding habits. As piercing-sucking insects, they extract essential sap from the phloem of the plant. This continuous feeding weakens the host, leads to foliage chlorosis, stunts growth, and in severe infestations, can result in total branch dieback or plant death.
The biological cycle involves an egg stage, several nymphal instars, and the adult stage. The first instar nymphs, or "crawlers," are the most mobile stage and are responsible for spreading the infestation. As they settle, they become relatively sedentary, continuing the cycle by developing into adults and initiating the next generation.
