NIZHEGORODSKAYA RANNAYA

The Lonicera species 'Nizhegorodskaya Rannaya' is a high-yielding early-ripening shrub bred at the Nizhny Novgorod Agricultural Academy. The bushes are medium-sized or vigorous, reaching heights of 0.8 to 2 meters, with a dense or compact inverted-conical crown. The canes are thin, curved, and slightly pubescent, while the leaves are elongated-oval and slightly concave. The variety is characterized by high frost resistance, enduring temperatures down to -34°C, making it ideal for cultivation in the central region of Russia. It is resistant to diseases, including spotting, and pests, provided proper care and sanitary pruning after leaf drop or in early spring. The fruits of the Lonicera 'Nizhegorodskaya Rannaya' are large, weighing from 0.8 to 1.2 grams, dark blue with a thick waxy bloom, which extends storage periods. The berries have an inverted-ovoid or round-peach shape with a pointed apex and a sour-sweet taste without bitterness or with a slight astringency. The fruits have low drop-off and good transportability, making them convenient for fresh consumption and universal use. Ripening occurs early, between June 10 and 15, while fruiting begins in the third year after planting. The variety is self-sterile, so for successful pollination it is recommended to plant early Lonicera varieties nearby, such as 'Zolushka' or 'Tomichka'. Yield varies from medium to high: from 1.6-1.8 kg per bush in youth to 3.5-5.5 kg in maturity. The plant prefers fertile soils, moderate watering, and sunny locations for optimal growth and fruiting. Due to its characteristics, 'Nizhegorodskaya Rannaya' is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking an early and abundant harvest of tasty and healthy berries.
