The 'Basic' spring barley variety is a two-row feed barley developed by Australian breeders of the SAATBAU LINZ company. It belongs to medium-maturing varieties with a vegetation period of 70 to 85 days. It features a compact height, which ensures good resistance to lodging and allows for successful cultivation in various climatic conditions, including extensive technologies and stressful situations. The variety is undemanding and adapted to different cultivation regions, including the Central Black Earth region, as well as the Almaty and Kostanay regions. 'Basic' is characterized by stable high grain yields, which can reach up to 100 c/ha with a potential yield of up to 101 c/ha. The average yield in some regions is about 40.8-51 c/ha. The grain of this variety has a high protein content, ranging from 10.1% to 16%, making it particularly valuable for feed purposes. The productive tillering of the variety ranges from strong to very strong, which contributes to the formation of a high yield. The variety has high resistance to major barley diseases such as powdery mildew, rhynchosporium, and dwarf rust. At the same time, moderate resistance to loose smut but susceptibility to helminthosporium and root rots requires attention in agronomic activities. Thanks to its characteristics, 'Basic' is a reliable choice for the production of feed grain, ensuring stability and crop quality under various growing conditions.
