Winter barley variety Academic is a high-yielding cereal variety recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine. It belongs to mid-early maturing crops with a vegetation period of about 260 days and has a yield potential of up to 10.5 t/ha (104 c/ha). The 1000-grain weight is 43–45 g, and protein content varies within 14.5–16%, making this variety attractive for grain use.

The variety features a six-rowed, yellow, and stiff ear, as well as high resistance to lodging, shattering, and black smut, rated at 8 points. Additionally, Academic exhibits moderate resistance (4–7 points) to stem rust, powdery mildew, and dwarf bunt. The variety also has enhanced cold and drought tolerance, ensuring stable growth and high productivity under various climatic conditions.

To maintain plant health and maximize yield, fungicide protection is recommended, especially against rhiophytophthora and striped rust, to which the variety is susceptible. Treatment is usually applied once before emergence. Seeds of the Academic variety are produced by the Selection-Genetic Institute of the National Center for Seed Production and Variety Testing NAAN and are suitable for intensive farming in all regions of Ukraine.
