Barley Bemir 2

Mironivka Breeding Heritage: "Bemir 2" Barley

The "Bemir 2" barley variety represents the pinnacle of long-term work by breeders at the V.M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat of the NAAS. This material occupies a unique niche in domestic agriculture, offering farmers exceptional adaptability: the variety can be used in both winter and spring cropping cycles. This flexibility makes it a sought-after tool for risk management in Ukraine’s volatile climatic conditions.

Agronomic Potential and Morphology

The semi-dwarf plant type (60-70 cm) gives "Bemir 2" high resistance to lodging, which is critical for obtaining high-quality commercial grain. Yield stability is maintained through a robust immune framework:

• High resistance threshold against helminthosporiosis and smut diseases.
• Effective protection against powdery mildew, brown spot, and mycosphaerella leaf blotch.
• Resistance to onion stem smut.

Grain quality is another strong argument for this variety. With a 1,000-seed weight of 44–46 grams, "Bemir 2" demonstrates a respectable nitrogen content (12%), allowing it to be used not only for feed purposes but also considered for batches with higher quality requirements.

Market Position

In the current realities of the agricultural market, "Bemir 2" is viewed as a reliable "workhorse" for farms focused on predictable results. The variety is free from the marketing "noise" of foreign hybrids, offering instead adaptability to local soils, excellent responsiveness to agronomic background, and the time-tested breeding purity of the Myronivka school. It is a choice for those who prioritize rationality and reliability in pathogen control without excessive expenditure on fungicide protection.
