Orfei

The Orfeus apple variety is a winter variety with restrained growth and a medium-density rounded crown. The tree is characterized by early fruiting, starting to bear fruit as early as the second year after planting on the M9 rootstock; yield increases rapidly in young trees and remains regular and abundant. The variety is resistant to scab due to the presence of an immunity gene and also exhibits high resistance to powdery mildew, frost, and drought, making it suitable for intensive cultivation technologies.

Orfeus apple fruits are large, elongated-conical in shape, and weigh up to 290 grams, having a correct and impressive shape. The main fruit color is greenish-yellow, with a vividly pronounced raspberry or red ground color. The skin is smooth and dry, with a small number of subcutaneous dots of greenish-grey color. The fruit calyx is deep and pointed, the basin is semi-open, and the core is large and bulbous in shape.

The apple flesh is of a cream shade, finely-grained, of medium density, juicy and aromatic with an acid-sweet dessert-type taste. The fruits possess high taste qualities and are well preserved in fresh form, exhibiting high transportability. The chemical composition includes about 9.6% sugars, 5.6 mg/100 g of vitamin C, 13.7% dry matter, and 72.8 mg/100 g of vitamin P (catechins), which further underscores their beneficial properties.
