Aydared

Aydared apple — a high-yielding winter variety developed in the USA in 1935 by crossing Wagner and Jonathan varieties. Trees are medium to tall with round or broadly oval crowns, strong branches emerging from the trunk at an angle of 40–70°. Fruit production begins on the 2nd–4th year after planting, with consistently high yields: by the 6th–7th year, a tree produces 25–30 kg of apples, and by the 10th–13th year — up to 90 kg. Trees are highly adaptable, grow vigorously, do not form root suckers, and do not require permanent support. Aydared fruits are large, weighing 145–210 g, round or flat-round in shape, with smooth, thin skin covered with a light waxy coating. Fruit color varies from light green to greenish-yellow with bright red or pinkish blush, which may be diffuse or striped. Flesh is cream-colored, juicy, fine-grained, firm when ripe and becomes slightly softer during storage. Flavor is slightly tart-sweet with a mild aroma; sensory evaluation reaches 4–4.2 points. Fruits do not drop from the tree, have good transportability, and are visually appealing. Harvesting occurs at the end of September to early October, and fruits retain consumer quality until February under normal storage conditions and until June in specialized cold storage facilities. The variety is drought-tolerant, has moderate cold hardiness, and is suitable for cultivation throughout Ukraine. Aydared is versatile in use; fruits are intended for fresh consumption and are also excellent for long-term storage and transport.
