Zari is a summer variety developed in Belgium specifically for professional orchards. This cluster-type variety has received high ratings for its attractive appearance and excellent flavor. The fruits are large, weighing 180-200 g, round in shape, with yellow skin covered by a striped-orange-red blush occupying more than 60% of the fruit's surface. The flesh is yellow-cream-colored, juicy, tender, sweet, and crisp, with a pleasant summer aroma. Intense coloring is concentrated near the stem and gradually transitions into yellow at the bottom of the apple.
The tree is of medium height with a rounded-pyramidal crown. The apple tree begins fruiting on the 4th-5th year after planting in the orchard. The variety is characterized by cold resistance and resistance to scab and powdery mildew, making it a reliable choice for cultivation under various climatic conditions.
The fruits ripen in late August and can be stored in a refrigerator for up to two months, and when stored in a controlled atmosphere (CA) chamber, they can retain their quality until the end of winter — an excellent characteristic for summer varieties. At home storage, there are only minor losses in fruit quality. The Zari apple was obtained by crossing the varieties Elstar and Delbarestival, ensuring the combination of the best traits of both parents.
