Gala

The Gala apple tree is a high-yielding and popular autumn variety developed in New Zealand in 1957. The trees are medium-sized with pyramidal or oval-spherical crowns, and begin bearing fruit 2-4 years after planting, especially when grafted onto semi-dwarf rootstocks. The variety is known for its early fruiting and high productivity, making it popular both in private gardens and commercial orchards. For successful growth, it is recommended to plant apple trees on open, sunny sites with fertile loamy soils.

The fruits of the Gala variety are medium-sized, uniform, round or round-conical in shape, with yellow skin covered by a blurred orange-red blush and small light lenticels. The flesh is dense, juicy, yellow in color, with a harmonious sweet taste and mild acidity, as well as a refined caramel aroma. The apples store well for 2-4 months, have good transportability, and an attractive appearance.

The Gala variety exhibits moderate resistance to scab and powdery mildew, as well as moderate winter hardiness. The apple tree requires pollinators, as it is not self-fertile.
