Agronomic Management of ZU YANOSHIK Winter Wheat

The ZU YANOSHIK winter wheat hybrid, introduced in 2025 by the German breeder W. von Borries-Eckendorf GmbH & Co. KG, represents a new generation of high-intensity crops. Designed specifically for the Steppe and Forest-Steppe climatic zones, this hybrid requires precise agronomic management to maximize its yield potential.

Sowing Strategy and Field Placement

To ensure optimal crop establishment in the SL-zone, the following parameters are recommended:

• Sowing Window: The optimal period is the second half of September. This timing allows the plant to complete its tillering phase before the onset of winter dormancy.
• Seeding Rate: Target a density of 3.5 to 4.5 million viable seeds per hectare, depending on soil moisture levels at the time of planting.
• Soil Requirements: The hybrid thrives in fertile, well-drained soils with a neutral pH. Proper seedbed preparation is essential to ensure uniform germination and root development.

Crop Management by Growth Stage

ZU YANOSHIK responds exceptionally well to intensive nutrient management. A split-application approach for nitrogen fertilizers is recommended: the first application in early spring to stimulate vegetative growth, and the second during the stem elongation phase to support spike development.

Fungicide applications are critical for maintaining leaf health. An initial treatment during the early stem elongation phase is necessary to prevent early-season leaf diseases. In the Steppe zone, moisture conservation is paramount; utilizing reduced tillage or mulching practices helps preserve the soil moisture required for grain filling during potential summer heat stress.

Weed control should be executed during the tillering phase using selective herbicides to eliminate competition during the crop's most sensitive growth stages. Consistent monitoring for pests and diseases throughout the season will ensure the hybrid reaches its full genetic potential.
