A new release in Ukrainian breeding from STOV "Peremoha", the winter complex hybrid "Prima Unavi" is the result of targeted efforts to create a high-yielding food-grade variety. Registered in 2025, this hybrid is aimed at farmers in the Steppe and Forest-Steppe regions seeking a balance between technological efficiency and grain quality.

Key Morphotype Features

Unlike many classic varieties, "Prima Unavi" demonstrates pronounced adaptability to intensive farming conditions. The plant has an upright habit and medium height, ensuring resistance to lodging. Breeders paid special attention to defensive mechanisms: a strong waxy bloom on the leaf blade and the upper internode effectively reduces transpiration and protects against overheating during dry periods typical of steppe zones.

Ear Technological Characteristics

• Form and Structure: Pyramidal ear of medium density with long awns along the entire length.
• Biological Protection: Strong pubescence on the edges of the lower rachis segments and moderate pubescence of the upper straw node create an additional barrier against pests and pathogens.
• Development: Medium heading dates allow the variety to effectively utilize spring moisture, avoiding peak temperature stress.

The "Prima Unavi" grain has an elongated shape with a long brush, which is a marker of high quality. A light reaction to phenol confirms the purity of the genetic material. Due to its food-grade designation, the variety meets the stringent requirements of the milling industry, ensuring stable performance during processing.
