Wheat Lainer

Reliable crop protection under high pest pressure

The «Liner» winter wheat variety, developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute, is a precision tool for farmers operating in regions with a high concentration of soil pests. The primary value of this variety lies in its genetic resistance to a complex of insects that typically devastate crops during the emergence phase. Choosing this variety is a strategic decision in areas where seed treatment with insecticides often requires reinforcement or shows limited efficacy.

Field Application Scenarios

• Risk mitigation during early sowing: The variety shows high resilience to attacks by Hessian flies, frit flies, and leafhoppers, allowing farmers to confidently proceed with sowing campaigns during optimal regional windows without fear of crop thinning.
• Soil pest management: «Liner» effectively combats wireworms and cereal ground beetles (Zabrus tenebrioides). In fields with high population density of these pests, the variety maintains stable stand density, reducing the need for costly reseeding.
• Aphid control: Genetic resistance to aphids helps prevent early-stage infection by viral diseases, for which these insects act as primary vectors.

Agronomists select this variety for fields with high pest pressure where pest management is a persistent challenge. Due to its unique specialization, «Liner» helps reduce operational costs associated with additional insecticide applications, allowing resources to be redirected toward fungicide programs or micronutrient fertilization. As an intensive-type variety, it requires adherence to standard cultivation technologies and responds to proper nutrient management with a high-quality, high-yield harvest.
