DON 105

DON 105 — a soft winter wheat variety (Triticum aestivum L.) created through intraspecific hybridization at the All-Russian Research Institute of Grain Crops named after I.G. Kalinenko. This medium-early variety belongs to the steppe southern ecological group of wheats and is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, including the Azov, Southern, and Eastern zones of the Rostov region, as well as the Lower Volga region. The vegetation period ranges from 226 to 287 days, ensuring optimal crop development under the growing conditions.

DON 105 is characterized by medium height and lodging resistance, high winter hardiness and frost hardiness, as well as adaptation to natural conditions, including resistance to ice crust and waterlogging. The variety demonstrates good drought tolerance, although slightly lower than that of the Don 95 variety. The plant forms well, creating from 800 to 1000 heads per square meter. The grain has an oval shape, red color, and vitreous structure of medium size, with a 1000-grain mass ranging from 33 to 42 grams.

The variety has moderate resistance to brown and yellow rust, high resistance to powdery scab and drought, but is susceptible to loose smut, glume blotch, and powdery mildew. The baking qualities of the grain are good, making DON 105 attractive for agricultural production. The average yield of the variety is about 5.3–5.53 tons per hectare, with maximum indicators up to 8.9 tons, confirming its high productivity and reliability under the zoning conditions.
