MAIYA – a high-yield variety of Japanese origin vigne grown in Ukraine. Plants reach a height of up to 5 m and possess a sturdy structure, ensuring resistance to major legume diseases. Moreover, they are capable of producing a large number of pods up to 1 meter long, containing small black round-oval seeds.
MAIYA fruits are distinguished by unusually long beans with a thickness of up to 2 cm and a length of 60 to 80 cm. They are juicy, without a parchment layer, and the entire wall of the fruits hangs from the bush, creating an impressive decorative effect. Thanks to continuous fruiting from July to October, up to 3 kg of beans can be harvested from one plant.
The variety is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for canning and freezing. Seed yield ranges from 0.47 to 1.24 t/ha, while bean yield ranges from 6.5 to 9.8 t/ha. The sowing rate is 200 thousand viable seeds per hectare, with sowing dates in the second decade of May; harvesting is done manually. MAIYA is also valued as a decorative plant for greening gazebos, balconies, and terraces thanks to its climbing stem length of 2–3 m.
