Field pea Donana

Genetic resilience and performance of Donana Peas

The Donana variety from the Dutch breeder Nunhems is a high-precision tool for industrial vegetable production. The core technical advantage of this hybrid lies in its specialized genetic immune system, specifically engineered to mitigate soil-borne pathogens. In high-intensity farming, Fusarium wilt represents a significant threat to profitability; however, the development by Agro Seed Research (ASR) provides robust natural resistance, ensuring a stable yield in problematic soils.

Engineering of the Pod and Vegetation

The technical parameters of Donana are calibrated for high-throughput harvesting environments:

• Vegetation Period: 60-70 days. This cycle allows producers to optimize planting schedules for continuous supply chains throughout the season.
• Pod Structure: Each pod is engineered to contain 10-12 peas, maximizing the yield density per hectare.
• Consistency: The hybrid exhibits uniform maturation, which is crucial for mechanical harvesting, as it reduces waste and ensures the raw material meets quality standards for freezing and canning plants.

By selecting Donana, producers benefit from a reduced need for chemical fungicide applications, directly impacting the operational cost structure. The research invested by the ASR team into this hybrid ensures that the peas maintain their sugar content and structural integrity during the processing stage, making it an excellent choice for large-scale agricultural enterprises focusing on professional supply chains.
