The vegetable pea variety Alexandra is an early and quick-maturing variety, distinguished by high yield and versatility. The plant is semi-dwarf, about 60 cm tall, with white flowers. Pods ranging from 6 to 10 cm in length contain 5 to 10 sweet peas, possessing high taste and nutritional qualities. This variety is valued for its cold hardiness, disease resistance, and frost tolerance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including territories of Ukraine, Moldova, and Russia.
Alexandra is undemanding in care and highly adaptable to soil conditions. The best soils for cultivation are non-acidic, moisture-retentive, and permeable. For optimal development, crop rotation with predecessors such as cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, and early potato is recommended. Sowing is conducted at the end of April to a depth of 2-3 cm, with inter-row spacing of 20-30 cm and a sowing rate of up to 100 seeds per 10 m². After seedlings appear, inter-row cultivation, watering, and fertilizing are necessary, and when plants reach a height of 15-20 cm, they are tied up for better support.
The Alexandra variety has high nutritional properties, including amino acids, proteins, B vitamins, carotene, starch, and sugars. Due to juicy pods without a parchment layer, the peas are suitable for fresh consumption and long-term harvest collection throughout the summer when sown in multiple rounds with an interval of 10-15 days. This makes the variety attractive to pea lovers who appreciate the combination of taste, nutrition, and ease of cultivation.
