Tulip Mondial

Engineering Approach to Mondial Breeding

The Mondial tulip belongs to the early double flowering class, yet its biological cycle requires precise attention to agrotechnical timing. Unlike standard bulbous varieties, this cultivar exhibits complex bud morphology: the multilayered petals provide high flower density, which in practice translates into superior resistance to mechanical damage during transit.

Phytopathological Profile

A key advantage of Mondial is its selective resistance to the most destructive pathogens affecting bulbs in both greenhouse and open-field conditions:

• Verticillium and Fusarium wilt: genetic protection minimizes planting stock losses during storage and rooting stages. Dense bulb tissues create a physical barrier against fungal mycelium.
• Root-knot nematode: the cultivar shows a reduced infestation index, which is critical for maintaining plant turgor during the active vegetative growth phase.

Morphology and Vegetation

The snow-white petal coloration of Mondial requires strict temperature control. With a medium height of the flower stalk, the plant maintains an optimal balance between stem length and leaf surface area, which prevents lodging. The medium blooming period allows for efficient use of Mondial in rotational production cycles, ensuring stable market supply following early groups and preceding late tulip varieties.
