Tulip Leeuwenhorst

A Benchmark of Dutch Breeding

The 'Leeuwenhorst' tulip stands as a classic example of premium Dutch breeding, specifically developed to bridge the gap between aesthetic beauty and robust physiological health. As a member of the Double Early tulip category, it has earned a strong reputation among professional growers for its consistent performance, making it a staple in both greenhouse forcing and field cultivation.

Resilience and Disease Resistance

In the world of commercial floriculture, variety longevity is often dictated by its ability to withstand common pathogens. 'Leeuwenhorst' is particularly valued for its strong genetic resistance profile, which significantly reduces the need for heavy chemical interventions. The cultivar demonstrates notable resistance to:

• Fusarium wilt;
• Verticillium wilt;
• Tomato mosaic virus;
• Spotted wilt virus;
• Cladosporiosis.

This high level of tolerance to soil-borne and viral pathogens makes it an exceptionally reliable investment for modern nurseries.

Floral Characteristics and Market Use

While categorized as a Double Early tulip, its flowering period often aligns with the mid-season, allowing growers to effectively extend their sales window. The cream-colored petals provide a sophisticated, elegant aesthetic that remains stable even under fluctuating temperature conditions. Its average stem height provides the structural integrity necessary for commercial handling, ensuring that the heavy, double-petaled blooms remain upright during shipping and retail display.

The variety is widely regarded for its versatility, serving as a perfect candidate for high-end floral arrangements where both color uniformity and vase life are non-negotiable requirements.
