Tulip Apeldoorn's Elite

The resilience of classic Darwin hybrids

Apeldoorn’s Elite stands out as a refined evolution of the legendary Apeldoorn tulip. While maintaining the hallmark structural integrity and size of Darwin hybrids, this variety introduces a striking aesthetic: the classic fiery red petals are accented with a distinct mauve or gold-edged border. It is a reliable, high-performance bulb that brings both tradition and visual complexity to the spring garden.

Key advantages and garden performance

• Structural integrity. Featuring tall, robust stems, Apeldoorn’s Elite withstands spring winds and temperature fluctuations better than most mid-season varieties, maintaining an upright posture without staking.
• Reliability. Known for its "toughness," this cultivar is a favorite for mass landscaping and professional cut-flower production due to its consistent performance year after year.
• Phenology. As a mid-season bloomer, it provides the perfect bridge in the landscape, keeping color transitions seamless between early botanical species and later-blooming lily-flowered varieties.

The primary consideration for growers is drainage; like most Darwin hybrids, this variety dislikes "wet feet." To prevent bulb rot, plant in well-amended, porous soil in full sun. When these conditions are met, the plant rewards the gardener with long-lasting, large, goblet-shaped flowers that hold up exceptionally well in vase life. Whether you are a professional landscaper looking for a consistent, high-impact flower or a home gardener seeking a reliable perennial tulip that won't underperform, Apeldoorn’s Elite delivers the perfect balance of vigor and aesthetic appeal.
