Zlіt Kharkіvskyi — this is a high-yielding variety of hard triticale (Triticosecale Witt), developed by the Institute of Plant Industry named after V.Ya. Yur'ev of NAAN and registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2018. The variety is intended for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia regions. It is characterized by a medium-length vegetation period of 88–95 days, a medium-height plant type with a height of 95–110 cm, as well as enhanced resistance to lodging, shattering, seedling diseases, major leaf diseases, cold tolerance, and drought tolerance. The potential yield of this variety reaches 8.5 t/ha, with average yields ranging from 4.02 to 5.31 t/ha depending on growing conditions.
The grain of Zlіt Kharkіvskyi has a light-brown color, large size (1000-grain weight 40.0–45.0 g), and high test weight (760–810 g/l). Protein content in the grain is 12.65%, and raw gluten content in flour is 22.5%. These indicators ensure high baking properties: bread volume from 100 g of flour reaches 510 ml, and the overall quality rating of baking properties is 8–9 points. Due to these characteristics, the variety is suitable for both food and feed purposes.
The development of the Zlіt Kharkіvskyi variety is the result of long-term selection work aimed at increasing yield, resistance to abiotic and biotic factors, and improving grain quality. The Laboratory of Triticale Selection and Genetics at the Institute of Plant Industry has created more than 25 varieties of hard triticale, of which 14 have been registered. Research confirms the high adaptability, stable yield, and drought tolerance of the Zlіt Kharkіvskyi variety, making it promising for widespread use in Ukrainian agriculture.
