Dostatok Kharkivskyi — this is a new type of hard wheat, developed by the Institute of Plant Growing named after V. Ya. Yuryev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and registered in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine in 2020. This variety belongs to the erythrospermum type and is intended for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia regions. It has a medium-length vegetation period of 89–94 days and a medium-height plant type with plant height of 105–110 cm. The variety has a balanced dense stem that contributes to increased resistance to lodging, shattering, and sprouting, evaluated at 9 points, as well as cold and drought resistance at 8 points.
The grain of this variety is light-brown, large, with a 1000-grain weight of 42–46 grams, high grain density (725–750 g/l), and 32% gluten content. Protein content in the grain is 11.21%, starch — 63.03%, and raw gluten content in flour — 18%. These indicators ensure high flour quality, confirmed by a general bread-making score of 8–9 points and bread volume of 420 ml per 100 g of flour. Due to its characteristics, the variety is suitable for food use, and in southern Ukraine, it can even be grown during 'January windows'.
Wheat combines the properties of barley and wheat, ensuring high productivity, disease resistance, drought and frost resistance, as well as adaptability to various soil types. In addition to food use, wheat is used as a feed crop for livestock and poultry due to its high protein and amino acid content. This crop also has potential in bioenergy production, particularly for bioethanol and alcohol production. The Laboratory of Wheat Selection and Genetics continues work on improving varieties, increasing yield, resistance to abiotic factors, and grain quality, making Dostatok Kharkivskyi a promising variety for the development of Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
