Triticale Amphidiploid 51

Field Performance of the Winter Triticale «Amphidiploid 51»

When selecting «Amphidiploid 51» from the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute, the primary goal for an agronomist is operational predictability. This variety has proven to be a reliable performer in Ukrainian field conditions, requiring minimal intervention in crop protection protocols.

Protection Economics and Resistance

A major concern in cereal production is fungal pressure. Its genetic resistance to wheat brown rust, septoria, and powdery mildew is not just a catalogue spec, but a tangible saving in production costs. Standard crop monitoring is sufficient to maintain field health without emergency chemical treatments.

Operational and Technical Insights

• Winter Hardiness: The variety handles temperature fluctuations well, which is vital for Ukraine's steppe and forest-steppe zones. Spring regrowth is uniform, leaving no thin spots in the fields.
• Harvestability: The plant features optimal stem height, reducing lodging risks during heavy rains. This simplifies combine operations: the cutting is clean, and grain losses at the header are kept to an absolute minimum.
• Resource Efficiency: «Amphidiploid 51» responds well to fertilization but does not require premium inputs to achieve a profitable yield. It efficiently converts mineral nutrition into high-quality biomass.

For the field operator, this means a predictable schedule: from sowing to harvest, the crop does not throw up surprises that require shifting logistics or deploying additional equipment for damage control.
